Daddy, stop and notice that she is trying her best to get you to stop merely entertaining her for a guffaw, to stop entertaining yourself at her expense, and to let her explore the paper and learn how to tear it the way she saw you do it! Come on, Dad, she’s human; she’s not your toy. She wants to learn. But if you continue to miss her cues day after day, month after month, year after year, she will lose touch with her inner motivation and drive. Then you will have to motivate her externally with rewards and punishments, grades and awards, praise and hubris to get her to learn.
